Uns ist ein Kind geboren,
Unto us a child is born,
ein Sohn ist uns gegeben.
a son is to us given.
3. ARIA BASSO
Dein Geburtstag ist erschienen,
Your day of birth has appeared,
so erfordert meine Pflicht,
so my duty would compel me
dich, mein Jesu zu bedienen.
to serve you, my Jesus.
Doch, ich Armer weiß gar nicht,
Yet I, a poor one, know not at all
was ich suche, was ich finde,
what I can seek, what I can find,
welches dir zum Angebinde
als ein heilig Opfer taugt,
that could be an acceptable gift
for you as a sacred offering.
dich, o großer Gott, vergnügt.
to bring you pleasure, O great God.

Ich will den Namen Gottes loben
I will praise the name of God
mit einem Liede,
with a song,
und will ihn hoch ehren mit Dank.
and will highly revere him with thanks.

Denn das Los ist mir in allen

Immanuell! Du wollest dir gefallen lassen,
Immanuel! You have let it be your desire,
daß dich mein Geist und Glaube kann umlassen;
that my spirit and faith rely on you;
kann ich die Freude gleich so herzlich nicht entdecken,
I cannot heartily even fathom such joy
die dein Geburtstag will erwecken,
as your day of birth will arouse,
wird doch mein schwaches Lallen
would that my meager prattle still
dir durch Lob und Preis gefallen.

7. ARIA ALTO
Jesu, dir sei Preis gesungen,
Jesus, unto you praise be sung,
denn ich bin durch dich erlöst,
for through you I am redeemed,
nichts betrübet das Gemüte,
nothing can aggrieve the mind,
da mein Herz durch deine Güte
as my heart, through your goodness,
überschwenglich wird getröst't.
effusively is comforted.

Alleluja, Alleluia, gelobet sei Gott,
Alleluia, alleluia, praise be God,
singen wir aus unsres Herzen Grunde,
we sing from the bottom of our hearts,
denn Gott hat heut'
for God has today
gemacht solch Freud'

of which we shall not forget
