Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir,
Out of deep agony I cry to you,
Herr Gott, erhör mein Rufen;
Lord God hear my cry;
dein gnädig Ohr neig her zu mir
lean your ear of mercy near to me
und meiner Bitt sie öffne!
and be open to my plea!
Denn so du willt das sehen an,
For when you willingly consider,
was Sünd und Unrecht ist getan,
what sin and injustice have been done,
wer kann, Herr, vor dir bleiben?

In Jesu Gnade wird allein

What now could the Spirit’s joyfulness

wo Jesu Geist und Wort nicht neue Wunder tun?

Ich höre mitten in den Leiden
In the midst of suffering I hear
ein Trostwort, so mein Jesus spricht.
a word of comfort, as my Jesus speaks.
Drum, o geängstigtes Gemüte
Thus, O anxious mind,
vertraue deines Gottes Güte,
trust the goodness of your God,
sein Wort besteht und fehlet nicht,
his word persists and fails not,
sein Trost wird niemals von dir scheiden!
his comfort will never be separated from you!

Ach! Daß mein Glaube noch so schwach,
Alas! That my faith is still so feeble,
und daß ich mein Vertrauen
auf feuchtem Grunde muß erbauen!

Wie ofte müssen neue Zeichen
How often must new signs
mein Herz erweichen!
melt my heart!
Wie? kennst du deinen Helfer nicht,
How then? do you not recognize your helper,
der nur ein einzig Trostwort spricht,
who merely speaks one word of comfort,
und gleich erscheint,
and it suddenly appears,
eh deine Schwachheit es vermeint,
in any case your frailty is considered,
die Rettungsstunde.
at the hour of redemption.
Vertraue nur der Allmachtshand und seiner Wahrheit Munde!
Trust alone the hand of the Almighty and his mouth of truth!

Wenn meine Trübsal als mit Ketten
ein Unglück an dem andern hält,
When my afflictions in misfortune fetter me as if with chains

so wird mich doch mein Heil erretten,
so still will my Savior deliver me,
daß alles plötzlich von mir fällt.

Wie bald erscheint des Trostes Morgen
As soon appears the morning of comfort
auf diese Nacht der Not und Sorgen!

Ob bei uns ist der Sünden viel,
Even though sin is with us greatly,
bei Gott ist viel mehr Gnade;
with God grace is much more;
sein Hand zu helfen hat kein Ziel,
his helpful hand has no ending,
wie groß auch sei der Schade.

der Israel erlösen wird
