Ich lasse dich nicht,
     I will not let go of you,
du segnest mich denn!
     for you will bless me!

2. ARIA TENORE
Ich halte meinen Jesum feste,
     I hold my Jesus fast,
ich laß ihn nun und ewig nicht.
     I will not let go of him now or ever.
Er ist allein mein Aufenthalt,
     He alone is my stay,
drum faßt mein Glaube mit Gewalt
     hence my faith is strongly affixed
sein segenreiches Angesicht;
     to his blessing-rich countenance;
denn dieser Trost ist doch der beste:
     for this solace is indeed the best:
ich halte meinen Jesum feste!
     I hold my Jesus fast!

3. RECITATIVO TENORE
Mein lieber Jesu du,
     My dear Jesus, you,
wenn ich Verdruß und Kummer leide,
     when I suffer dismay and grief
so bist du meine Freude,
     then you are my joy,
in Unruh meine Ruh
     in unrest my rest,
und in der Angst mein sanftes Bette;
     and in anxiety my soft bed;
die falsche Welt ist nicht getreu,
     the deceptive world is not trustworthy,
der Himmel muß veralten,
     the sky is obsolete,
die Lust der Welt vergeht wie Spreu;
     the world's lusts disperse like chaff;
wenn ich dich nicht, mein Jesu, hätte,
     if I did not have you, my Jesus,
an wen sollt ich mich sonsten halten?
     to whom should I otherwise cling?
Drum laß ich nimmermehr von dir,
     Thus I will never again let go of you,
dein Segen bleibe denn bei mir.
     for your blessing abides in me.

so geh ich auch zum Himmel ein,
     so I too shall enter Heaven,
wo Gott und seines Lammes Gäste
     where God and his lamb's guests
in Kronen zu der Hochzeit sein.
     are crowned for the wedding.

Da laß ich nicht, mein Heil, von dir,
     There I will not let go of you,
     my salvation,
da bleibt dein Segen auch bei mir.
     there your blessing abides also in me.
Ei, wie vergnügt
     Ah, how comfortable
ist mir mein Sterbekasten,
     is my casket to me,
weil Jesus mir in Armen liegt!
     for Jesus lies in my arms!
So kann mein Geist recht freudig rasten!
     So my spirit can rest in true joy!

     O lovely place!
Komm, sanfter Tod, und führ mich fort,

Ich bin erfreut,
